A unique new private initiative, The ‘DREAM! CHILD’ Foundation has been established in Ghana with a pan-African scope, which aims to use the culture of music to create awareness of the African renaissance and encourage and support the African child particularly the underprivileged in overcoming challenges to play a pivotal role in propelling it forward. To this end, DREAM! CHILD aims to help children, first in Ghana, and ultimately across the continent by encouraging them to aspire to great things and help them to fulfill those aspirations. Central to its efforts, the foundation is seeking to raise funds for selected institutions that can improve access to and the provision of adequate health care for children.
The first beneficiary of DREAM! CHILD’s charity largesse is to be the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital’s Children’s Ward and subsequently the foundation will support the institutions that provide access to health care for children initially in Ghana and ultimately in other African countries as well. Already, the DREAM! CHILD Foundation has been officially launched at the British Council in Accra on July 22nd 2010, and a board of trustees has been established.
It comprises representation from the government of Ghana, through the Ministry for Women And Children’s Affairs, the World Bank, KPMG, The Empowerment Group (a Ghanaian NGO), DATABANK, The Highlife Institute of Ghana and Scratch Records, an Accra-based state-of-the-art audio and video recording studio.DREAM! CHILD’s unique strategy involves using the culture of music to propagate its message and get institutions and individuals alike to support the initiative.
To this end a music single with inspirational lyrics, has been produced by Scratch Records and is scheduled for release in October 2010. It features an array of Ghanaian and international artistes, headlined by the legendary South African, Hugh Masekela.
